Sweet Home Alabama and Mick Wilson
All tracks on his debut album “Blame Train” have been penned by Mick Wilson with the exception of his very interesting arrangement of Lynard Skynard’s classic song “Sweet Home Alabama”. Mick’s connection with this song started early in his music career after seeing great crowd responses to the song during his live performances.
“Sweet Home Alabama” in recent times has shot back into the limelight with the release of   “All Summer Long” by “Kid Rock” with familiar tones of “Werewolf in London” revolving in the background.

A song by Southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd released in 1974 on their second album, Second Helping. Known as a response record, such songs "refer directly to a previous hit and usually do it in a catty, mischievous way". The lines in "Sweet Home Alabama" are a direct response to Neil Young and his anti-racist, anti-cross burning "Southern Man" and "Alabama" songs. Lynyrd Skynyrd's comeback was intended to mean, at first glance, "Thank you for your opinion Neil, now leave us alone".
Despite the controversy, it reached #8 on the US charts in 1974, and was the band's second hit single. |

Lyrics
Big wheels keep on turning,
carry me home to see my kin
singing songs about the southland.
I miss alabamy once again and I think it's a sin.
Well, I heard Mister Young sing about her.
Well, I heard ole Neil put her down.
Well, I hope Neil Young will remember
a southern man don't need him around anyhow.
Sweet home Alabama where the skies are so blue.
                                                      Â
Sweet home Alabama, Lord, I'm coming home to you.
In Birmingham they love the Gov'nor.
Now we all did what we could do.
Now Watergate does not bother me.
Does your conscience bother you, tell the truth.
Sweet home Alabama where the skies are so blue.
Sweet home Alabama, Lord, I'm coming home to you.
Now Muscle Shoals aint got the Swampers
been known to pick a song or two.
Lord, they get me off so much,
pick me up when I'm feeling blue, how about you.
Sweet home Alabama where the skies are so blue.
Sweet home Alabama, Lord, I'm coming home to you.
Sweet home Alabama where the skies are so blue.
Sweet home Alabama, Lord, I'm coming home to you |
